Still snowing

Measuring at a spot I know was snow free yesterday, we've got just a hair under 14". Most of the yard already had 8" or so on them, so I guess we're officially snow covered. New England at Christmas... is there any other way?

I'll get out and plow shortly, but it looks so pretty out right now, I want to just enjoy it from in here. That, and my jeans are in the dryer. The temps rose overnight - it's a balmy 7 right now. Another reason to stay in, the way I see it.

We are expecting a white christmas here in the PNW - though it is totally unusual for this area. Personally this will be the first christmas since 1969 that we have had snow on the ground at christmas (and we've lived in a lot of "snowy" states) Might be fun - if the roads are clear for driving a few miles to our daughter's house for christmas.

Stay warm and stay indoors.

Yikes. How do the little creatures survive in such weather?

Am sitting over here in New Hampshire watching the snow fall - and it is so beautiful. Am just going to enjoy the day!

The critters seem to survive just fine. Many hibernate, the tiny ones burrow under the snow and eat the roots right out from under my perennials. Still others make cozy nests alongside car engines, using fiber cultivated from the hood liner of my truck. Rotten beasts. Most of the songbirds have gone further south, the raptors stick around to eat the engine nesters and the root gnawers. That's a great thing about winter here - no mosquitoes. ;o)
