This is not a morning page. It's a 2:33 pm page because this morning didn't present an opportunity for journalling - too much to do, not enough time to do it. Excuses? Sure, but there it is.
There is some discussion on the quilting.about.com forum about a book called "The Artist's Way." I've not read this book, though I have heard about it. It seems, according to some of the posts, that the daily journalling and "dates" with your inner artists are two of the big ideas. Journalling I can do. Dates? Well, we'll have to work up to that. Right now she's lucky to sit with a cup of tea and someone else's Webshots. My artist really does need to get out more.
So, what am I doing right now, artiste-wise? I've finished a quilt for my nephew that I think looks better live than digitally. If I was selfish and had a BIG wall, I'd keep it.
Next on the mat is a quilt for my new-to-me 17 year old neice Christy. I think that's her name - my mom keeps waffling back and forth between Christy and Christina, but when I call her Christina, mom asks "who's that?" So Christy she is, even if she's not. I'll double check with brother Ed before I label it. When I asked mom what Christy/Christina likes she replied "Purple. And tv." Oh, THAT's helpful. I'm on my own here.
Christy's quilt is a great big Carpenter's Wheel. Bright scrappy on Black. I thought I'd outgrown my Amish stage years ago, but this one seems intent on being so, so it shall. I'll cut more bits while Simon does his homework. A real rotary cutter seems almost as persuasive as a proverbial big stick in keeping him on track.
And so ends Day One of my new life as an arist. Never knew I had it in me.
