Candlemas

If Candlemas be fair and bright,

Come, Winter, have another flight;
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,
Go Winter, and come not again.

For as the sun shines on Candlemas Day,
So far will the snow swirl until the May.

Today is February 2nd, Candlemas, Groundhog Day. And the sun is brilliant, it's 50 degrees in VERMONT!! Today defines "fair and bright." Will we have 6 more weeks of winter? Of course we will, we'll be lucky if it's only 6 weeks. I saw last night on the news that there are sugar houses boiling sap already. Unreal, absolutely unreal. We have no snow cover, there's green stuff in my coldframe already (volunteer, I'm not THAT Pollyanna.)

We should be buried right now, this should be the coldest part of the winter - as it is, I picked Simon up from school in my t-shirt and flip flops. I'd like to say I love this, but I don't. I can't help but listen to the voice inside my head that's screaming there's no free lunch. We're going to have to pay for this at some point. I hope it's not in May.
