I drink 3-5 cups of coffee on any given day. Cream, no sugar. Do I *need* to drink coffee? I don't think so, but we'll see. For the next ... fingers... toes... fingers... toes... shoot... fingers again... 46 days I will abstain from coffee. I contemplated giving up all caffeine, but then realized I was eating a chocolate chip oatmeal muffin at that same moment. oops.
Now, sure, I could have tea, I could have water, I could have orange juice. But coffee isn't just a beverage to me. It's an event. It's conversations with my friends, it's a warm cup in cold hands, it's COFFEE! So I will drink tea, I will drink water, I will have something else, and every time I do I'll be reminded to take a few seconds to examine my place within my self. And Easter Sunday when I enjoy a long lusted latte with my newspaper and morning reflections, I'll raise a toast to the friends, the warmth, and the COFFEE I'll appreciate that much more for having missed them.

Fully expect a caffiene head ache within the next couple days. If you can get through that, the rest should be (coffee)cake.
Still, it's a braver step than I would ever choose.
Giving up coffee?! Now that's an impressive sacrifice. I completely identify with coffee as ritual. Just last night I dropped by Starbuck's to meet friends.
BTW, congratulations on such an impressive weight loss. I'm inspired. Jen
21.5 lbs lost that's AWESOME!!! How did you you do it?
I often go through phases of giving up coffee, now I'm "on again".
No headache yet, knock wood. Could be the tea I'm substituting, though. It's hard! Friday mornings are my coffee and scone ritual, and while I've loved Chai since before chai was cool, it just wasn't the same.
