A Musing...

I mentioned yesterday that I bought that Kenmore machine this week. I haven't had the pleasure of a playdate, yet, but I think we'll be friends. The problem with the demonstration at the store was not the machine, nor was it the operator. The woman working the department, who left for her "much needed break, I've been standing around all day" within 5 minutes of my arrival just really knew nothing about sewing machines. The foot pedal she plugged in went to a completely different (model, style, BRAND of) machine. Just 'cause the plug fits doesn't make it the right plug. Gotcha. Did I mention that I was there just after noon, and the store only opened at 10? That woman's really in the wrong line of work, let me tell ya.

So Wednesday, proper foot pedal connected, I let fly and this machine did everything I asked. Turtle speed really is turtle-y, and absolutely silent. Rabbit speed was fast, but not out of control industrial machine fast. Good too. I'll get her out and play next week, when my chaos subsides a little. Just in time to finish those crazy blocks for Stacey's Round Robin. Guess I need to pick up some thread and ribbon. Darn. ;o)

Couple of things in that (just added) picture - my cute new machine, AND one of the blocks for the Round Robin. What you can't see? My WATER BOTTLE!! Indeed, it seems I'm actually getting much of it right today!

I've been waking up early the past few weeks, probably part of the reason for my exhaustion. Sunrise these days is 5:50 am, and since I prefer to sleep with the blinds open (weird, so?) I'm up when the sun's up. Daylight Savings Time starts next weekend, and I can't wait. This happens every year in the couple of weeks preceding the clock change.

My mom, font of all things trivial, brought something to my attention. Next year, in 2007, DST will start sooner. A new federal law changes the start date to the second Sunday in March, from the first Sunday in April, and the end date to the first Sunday in November, from the last Sunday in October. The best part? It won't be pitch dark at 5:00 on Halloween anymore! Sure it'll be twilight, but for little kids, SO much safer. And big kids? Well, they can just deal with it. It's not like they're going to be home by 6:00 anyway.

Glad you were able to get your new machine (& with the discounts)! I still haven't gotten entirely friendly with mine and I've had it since October. Everything just takes time. . .

You're so right about that, Debra. And lately it seems time is the one thing I *don't* have in spades. My calendar is less full this week, thank goodness. I was beginning to feel like I was personally responsible for keeping the post-it and felt tip pen people in business.

I had a similar experience shopping for a Kenmore. It's supposed to be a good machine and a great value, but someone needs to tell Sears how to market. I didn't buy one.
