Before I go further, let me just say, HEY! Thanks to whoever it is that reads this drivel - I've passed 3500 page views since I slapped up my counter. Cool beans! Coffee beans. :o)
40 some odd days ago I decided to give up coffee, my non-religious lenten-type sacrifice. It's been interesting. At first, it was just weird, unnatural to NOT order coffee as soon as I sat down in a restaurant. Chai, black tea, green tea, tissanes, water - I've done without coffee for just about 7 weeks and you know, I don't think I've learned much more than that I REALLY like good coffee.
I guess I did learn something. I already realized how coffee is more than a beverage, it's a whole experience. But this little period of awareness solidified something else. For me, nothing (or very little) is just what it is - it's all tied to context, and experience. So yeah, I guess I learned something after all. Next year, maybe I really WILL give up being fat for Lent.
I've been very aware of coffee for the past few days - I smell it walking past the bakery, pause at the grinder in the grocery store and enjoy the smell of freshly ground Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Morning Roast. Yesterday I picked up a carton of half and half. Tonight I washed the french press and made sure my favourite mug is clean. Tomorrow morning I'll fill the kettle, grind a handful of beans, and linger, finally, over the Sunday paper. Ahhhhh... can't wait.
