Who are we doing this for?

I was waiting in line at the bank the other day, and the teller was chatting with the man in front of me. He had lost 10 pounds, she noticed and commented on it. He smiled and asked how her diet was going. "Oh," she laughed "It's not really going anywhere. I've only lost 3 pounds, but my son, he's lost 8 and I'm just so proud of him. I don't care if I lose an ounce, as long as HE is healthy." Nice motherhood sentiment, but this woman is easily pushing 300 pounds, as is her husband. It's really no shock that their son is also overweight. Of course we want our children to be healthy, that's the most basic of human instincts. But shouldn't that concern extend to making sure these children have healthy, happy, LIVE parents?
