Weekend without many commitments, and did I sew? Nope. I pulled weeds, and hauled soil, and grilled burgers and got some sun. It's h-a-r-d to stay inside when all I want to do is play in the mud. It probably doesn't help that I've started a Garden Journal blog, and feel I need to document everything (so of course I have to DO something documentable every day. Or so.)
Since I spent the weekend outside, I thought I'd share a little of what's caught my attention.
This one - Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum) is my favourite weed. It grows right at the edge of the woods, and just in far enough to benefit from the dappled sunlight. It likes cleared spots - where it's more scrubby and dark, we get trilliums.
Lady's Mantle (Alchemilla), maybe? The tag disappeared over the winter, maybe when I raked earlier this spring. I think it is, it should have chartreuse flowers soon, that'll seal the deal.
The last one is a mystery. the tag behind it is for the "Purple Palace" Heuchera in the background. This one's tagless. I planted it last year, that I know. Sure looks like it's gonna be tall. Darn it, I may need to move it, if that's the case. Any ideas? I'll probably know it if someone comes up with a name, one of those, "Yeah, that's what it is!" IDs.
