And snowed, and then rained, and melted, and snowed some more. It's a slick wet mess out there, but I am not out there, so I don't care.
I was rummaging around in The Dump this morning looking for something less boring than muslin coloured Kona for the backing for the Map of the World. I found some yellow that I had enough of, but again, ::yawn.:: There were several flowery prints that didn't seem quite right either. Digging through a basket of mending (that had a dress in it that Tori wore to kindergarten. Oops) I discovered a rubber banded bundle of unopened envelopes. Intrigued, I opened one to discover 2 ten inch squares - one fish, one coordinating "water." It seems I not only participated in, but actually hosted a "Something's Fishy" 10" swap in June of 2003. I never opened the envelopes! Weeeeelllll, since more than 70% of the world is covered with water, and since that water is, or should be, teaming with sea critters, what on earth (ha!) could be more appropriate for the backing of my map. Trimming, pressing, cutting, seaming, Voila! The back of the world is done (and I didn't do too shabby a job matching corners, if I do say so myself.)

Funny how things happen, isn't it? You weren't meant to find them til you needed them and that's the absolute best backing for the back of the world!!!!!
Love the backing idea.
Shouldn't that count as finishing another UFO by using the fabrics from the swap? Add it to the list and check it off!
very clever!
SCORE!
'Twas meant to be!
It's amazing what you find when you go through things.
Serendipity at its finest!
