Friday Flashback

Fitzy and her daughter Erika have a GREAT idea, and until they tell me to cease and desist, I'm going to do it too. Share a memory - Flashback Friday. Here goes.

When I was quite young we lived in a little white house with orange trim, on a gravel road in the tiny community of Campbell's Cross. It was the 60s and we had far more freedom than I have ever allowed my own kids at that age. There were five of us, though my sister would have just been a baby and we roamed where we chose.

One of my favourite destinations was the farm, set a ways back from the road, of our extremely elderly neighbours Nicholas and Alexandra Kaleskos. (I'm sure that's spelled wrong) Grandpa Nick and his lovely wife were immigrants from Russia.

I cannot even begin to image where, in those pre-Disneyfied days I heard the story, but 4 year old me knew of the Romanovs and I was convinced, totally and absolutely, that my neighbours were in fact, the escaped Czar Nicholas and Czarina Alexandra. Killed by firing squad? Of course not! They were living next door to me in sleepy Southern Ontario. I knew their secret, and never told a soul until just a few years ago.

! ! STANDING APPLAUSE ! !

I just don't want to forget these memories, there are SO many details I'm already unable to verify or question.

Please continue, as will I, with the Friday Flashback, maybe others will join in our fun!
