In the past month we had just around 30" of snowfall. That's a little high for this area this early in the winter. But wait! That WAS winter. All that snow? Gone. Yesterday it was 64º, I went out in a t-shirt and bare feet to retrieve something from the truck, and except for the receding glaciers, it wasn't awful at all. This morning it rained. HARD. So hard, in fact, that the power flicked off a few times. Then the winds picked up and it felt like spring! Glorious springtime in Vermont, in January. Hold on a second. January. 10 years ago this week the state was covered with more ice than recorded history knew. January in Vermont isn't 64º, it's 24º if we're lucky. We shouldn't be seeing this much dog poop archeology until at least March.
Sadly, or not, the thaw is ending. If that was winter and spring, we're skipping summer and fall and going right back to winter. The galinstan is dropping, and all this green should be covered again shortly.
