Tuesday

VELCO's been at it all day today - chainsaws screaming and heavy equipment rumbling. That earthmoving sound always sounds to me like the tanks in Saving Private Ryan; I guess in a way it's the same, only it's not human homes and lives being destroyed, it's the homes and lives of the pheasants and squirrels and rabbits and woodpeckers that are being ripped down. Destroyed so that we can all play our music as long and as loud as we like, and not have to worry about the beer in the fridge getting warm.

I know it's not that simple, and there are good things that rely on this power too, but geeze. Like Tori (my genius! 14 year old) said as we were waiting for the flagman to let us pass the pole they were wrangling, "I'm trying to look at the positive side of this, but it's pretty hard to see." Especially when all you CAN see is fallen trees and 80 foot power poles.

My sympathies are with the pheasans, squirrels, rabbits and woodpeckers.
