Friday Flashback

I sat down to work on a crossword puzzle this afternoon, but had to find a pencil first. I love a sharp #2 pencil. Found one, but it needed to be sharpened. But before I could sharpen it, I needed to empty the pencil sharpener.

Standing over the trash, banging the side of the shavings cup I wondered how long it had been since it had been emptied. A long time, fersure.

When I was in elementary school we had classroom chores. At the end of every day someone emptied the pencil sharpener. Someone wiped the blackboard, someone else washed it with a wet rag. Another job was to stomp down the waste basket (boys always volunteered for this one.) Two people took the chalkboard erasers outside and and clapped them together to get the chalk dust out. I loved that job best, but with 35 kids in the class, I got to do it rarely. If we were feeling especially artistic (and bold) we'd go around to the wide expanse of the gym wall and make pictures. For some reason, "drawing" on the bricks was NOT allowed. Only a problem if you got caught, though...

I love my pencils too. I really love the micro mechanical pencils...remember the jumbo big ones we had as a child?
