Weekend Update

Little late; figured I oughta actually DO something to share, not just pretend. ;o)

I got a super-duper deal on fabric this week. our Ben Frankin's carries a lot of flat fold - over runs, discontinued prints etc. Lat week there was a $1 off per yard coupon in the little local paper so I cut it out hoping I might find something for the back of Alana's quilt. It's hit and miss in there - sometimes you find just the thing, but there's not enough. Other times, there's plenty of fabric you'd not want to line the trash cans with. This week, I got lucky. 4 1/2 yards of the red flower power print (Robert Kaufman) was on the clearance table - $1.99 yard. The white on white (cute huh?) was $2.99, the Benartex stripe was $3.99. Take a dollar a yard off those prices and I got two full backs and some for the stash for less than $13.00. Yeah baby. The backs are even assembled. Alana's needed a little extra to make the length, and it will go off to the quilter tomorrow. Woo!

I'm closing in on the last few inches of the brick quilting, and need to come up with something for the final round. Something *other* than just whacking off that border and calling it done. Time to pullout the book (Polar Express), I guess. I don't want something specifically Christmas, but I want it to relate. Ponder...

And here's a shot of the salad bowl. The passive waterer lets me ignore it for a little while, and yes, those are snow shoes and a shovel in the background. The bowl comes inside at night, but it got almost to 40ยบ today so I let the plants out for some air and sunshine.

Snowflakes aren't christmas, but they sure are winter themed...clouds...bells, like you were thinking, there might even be a free panto...

I would love to hear more about your passive watering. Is what you have set up like a forsythe system for cuttings but without the vermiculite? Or do you eventually move these plants into something else??

Great fabric bargains!!

Oh man, I used to LOVE Ben Franklin when we had one here...I did some serious stashing when that place was open! I've seen the Ben Franklin's near you every time we're driving up Rt. 7 and always mean to stop but never do... I'll have to make a point next time by to stop. (Adding to my list for the shop hop week coming up!!)

Score!

I love dimestores etc. which also stock fabric. As you say, it can be a hit-or-miss situation, but sometimes they'll have good stuff and not realize its worth.
