Friday Flashback
When I was a kid, one of the worst sentences ever handed sown was "go pull weeds." Ugh, there were always weeds; when you got to the end of one row, you started the next, and when you finished that row, you might as well go back and redo the first one, because the weeds were back. With an acre of vegetable garden, there were always more weeds. Didya ever read "The Rocking Horse Winner" by DH Lawrence? "There must be more money, there must be more money." We had that voice too, I believe, but "There's always more weeds" was just as loud.
In high school, one of the Librarian's favourite detentions (for talking) was shelf reading. Oh, it was a miserable, boring way to spend your free period. Not that I had to do it much, of course. In high school I was still a pretty awkward, shy kid.
Now, however, I pull weeds in my own garden because, ha! I enjoy it. And I volunteer at the library, shelf reading when there's nothing else to do. And ha! I love it.

Yeah, weeds are a constant annoyance. Happily, at this point my kid enjoys anything which involves filling a bucket and dumping it. "Pull weeds?" he'll ask me hopefully.
Shelf reading. Bleah!
