The Beast!

I'm sure there must be a more famous movie about a giant squid, but The Beast is all I could come up with using a basic Google search, and I didn't feel like expending the extra effort to dig deeper. Why so tired, you ask? Well, I wrestled a beast of my own today. These are just two of the tentacles, stretched about 30 feet out across the yard.

There really isn't much for about the first 25 feet or so, it's just a ropey single vine. Then the claws come out. The last 10 or 12 feet is like a million fingers that grab anything and everything as they grow up the trees toward the sunshine. As I said, though, these are mere arms, maybe an inch and a half in diameter.

The body of this beast is still a little out of reach, but I'm closing in. My loppers are no match for these trunks, I think it's a job for *da-da-da-daaaaa* Chainsaw Girl. Most of these vines are 2 1/2" to 3" in diameter, and they root and twist, and burrow everywhere through here. Oh, and did I mention we're heading into what is very likely Poison Ivy territory. Does the fun ever start end?

After a couple of hours wrestling that, I walked uptown and met Kathy and Jackie for lunch at 3 Squares. Yum! Kathy's having major jaw surgery tomorrow, she'll be eating through a straw for the next 6 weeks, so a final real meal seemed in order.

And after that, I dropped the truck off for a new inspection sticker (oops, it expired yesterday) and walked home. Tired? Yeah, a little.

I'm loading and captioning the VQF pictures now, I'll post a link when they're ready.
