The Bushwhacking Continues...

... but not today.
Today was just too hot and too humid. Yesterday was the same, but I was out there by 9:00 and out of the shower by 11:00. I got a good chunk done, though. The stump at the top of the picture is kinda/sorta in line with the pear tree that was last week's target. I cleared a tiny bit beyond it, but most of this was yesterday's work. That pine stump hidden in the green is this week's get-to spot. Much of this is new growth - jewelweed, wild raspberry brambles, and a lot of viburnum and dogwood suckers from old stumps. That's where the Fiskars loppers and shears (garden variety) come in. It's slowish, hot work, but it's nice to see the progress.

That annotated "old log" was, until about 10:00 yesterday a virtual Carpenter Ant Condo. Multi-residential PUD if you like. I came in with my shovel and exercised my doctrine of Eminent Domain and sent those little buggers packing. They regrouped, I assume, and returned fire, with a brief and mostly unsuccessful incursion into our bedroom(!) last night. Buggers indeed.

This morning Simon had an orthodontist appointment at 9:20. Just the perfect time to disrupt any possibility of brush clearing today. We were home by 10:30, but the humidity was building toward a thunderstorm, and I just couldn't drag myself upstairs to change into something trashable, especially if I was going to have to come right back in when the rain started. Instead, I brought up the portable a/c unit from the basement, cleaned it up, plugged it in, and grabbed a book. I looked out the window in time to notice it getting ominously dark outside; I got the last clothespin off the line just as the first drops hit the driveway.

Hey! Blow some of that Canadian air down our way will ya? Geez it's hot. Don't mind the heat so much as the sticky.
Stay cool if you can.
