Feline Friday Flashback

Have you seen these Simon's Cat videos on YouTube?

They're funny, and if you've owned a cat (or been owned by one, as they seem to believe) you know they're dead on accurate.

In the 70s, we had a big orange Tabby named (what else?) Morris. He was a talker, always walking around complaining about or commenting on something. He was also smart. He was an outside cat, but when we were having dinner all he wanted was to be INSIDE. He'd start at the back door, "meow" but give that up pretty quickly; we couldn't see him. From there he'd move to the family room window, jumping up and hanging from the wooden sill. "meow!" Still no good. He'd move to the patio doors off the deck and yell through the screen. "Meow!!" He was still ignorable - we could hear him, but he couldn't see us. We knew he was there, but he couldn't be sure that we really understood what it was he was trying to tell us. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and by the time the boys were dishing up second helpings, there'd be a slamming bang, followed immediately by some scratching and a huge orange cat belly, spread eagle on the kitchen window screen. "MEOW!!!" It was a true leap of faith (or idiocy) on that cat's part - he had to climb onto the deck railing then launch himself about 4 feet at at 45ยบ angle to hit an 18" x 24" panel of metal screen. He'd occasionally miss, but more often than not he'd make it, scaring the wits out of anyone who happened to be staying for dinner, sending the rest of us into uncontrollable snorts and giggles, and pissing my father off, same as every other time. Dad would get up from the table, pour himself a glass of water, and baptise that cat right off the screen.

"...baptise that cat right off the screen."

That turn of phrase was good for a chuckle! Wonderful, colorful story.

Ashley, Inky, Dippy, Tilly..four lovable CRAZY felines all with distinct personalities. Outside cats all of 'em, with a heated house that had wall-to-wall windows.

One of these days I bet dh brings a dog home from the station, he sees all of the adorable ones brought in for the "Pet of the Week" segments.

You bring joy to my every morning..did ya know? You're my first read..even if you haven't posted. It's like chatting over the fence!

Love that cartoon! (Can you send me the URL?)

My husband took the boy cat out the front door (My husband is a big tormentor) & set him down thinking that he would run back up the staris to get to the front door. - the smart cat ran to the lider in back - my husband chasing behind - thinkg that the cat was headed for the woods - My boy baby cat wanted to be back in the AC - no worry of running fo rthe woods with that one. But he was brilliant to run to the back slider!
