The Week that was

Last week

Needlework
nothing planned, and I accomplished it completely. Woohoo!

Outside
clear to the leaning pear tree
fix garage door,
change keypad to other door
weed and deadhead front corner bed

As evidence that I did, indeed work on the front flower bed, I offer pictures of flowers you haven't seen here before. Truth be told, *I* haven't seen them before either. This bed is pretty much established, and being at the end of the driveway, up by the lane, I see it in passing more than up close. It's full enough that it tends to take care of itself with maybe one or two weedings each summer. So maybe these blooms have happened before and I just missed them. The stonecrop, Dragon's Blood must surely be the most contented plant in my garden. One tiny little 3" pot, planted 5 or 6 years ago, spreads 4 feet in every direction if I don't pull it. It's blooming with reckless abandon right now, without benefit of any attention at all. It's a sweet groundcover, maybe a little invasive, but easily pulled to keep it in check.

This Campanula (Bell Flower) was a thank you gift a few years ago, for being a reading mentor if I recall. I actually thought it was gone - it's not where I remember planting it, either. Perhaps the original did bloom, dropped some seed, and this one grew in it's new place. I found another little one, too (surrounded, incidently, by stonecrop.) I cleared it some room, we'll see if it grows.

Did you know Sempervivum (Hens and Chicks) blooms? Me either! The flower stalk is about 9 or 10 inches high, with these cool strawflower looking blooms.

I've decided from now on to NOT set goals for the brush clearing. The mess gets pretty thick from this point forward. One bite at a time, I'll get this elephant eaten, but it'll be slow going. There's less than 30' left to go, and I guess, on the bright side, I'll be working in shade. Deep, dark shade.
