I spent a little while working on the little quilt for Alexis' unnamed swap - my fea... or maybe ...thers look a little like a string of seashells. Probably a combination of my lack of drawing skill and my not-so-tiny stitches. The front looks better, I promise.Early in the week it was still a little too muddy to work on brush, then it rained again Monday night, so I took on the job I've been putting off all summer - the front bed. Well, I started it anyway. I pulled weeds, I built up the edging/retaining wall, and I spent a lovely few hours building and pulling and raking and pondering what *exactly* I'm going to do when the drop off is more than my wall building skills can deal with. I think I might have found a solution - a neighbour with a Bobcat and a rock pile, and me with an unstabilized slope and a checkbook. Works for me.
I did get enough corners for 2 more raised beds (on sale! Whoo!) but didn't get the lumber. I realized I can only set up one for now, until the pole beans are ready to be pulled. Once they're out, the area for bed #4 frees and I can get that one going. In the meantime, I'll build and start filling #3 with grass clippings and compost. Note to self: order 2 more yards of soil.
I also spent the majority of this week in food related activities. Ugh. Tori and I did get her school shopping done, which involved a whole lot of outlet shopping and a nice lunch out. Monday was bagels for breakfast, and pie at the green, Wednesday was shots for Daniel (which necessitated a stop for a recuperative peanut butter cookie and chocolate milk) and Saturday, oh, Saturday. I posted some pictures last night, but they really don't do justice to the "OMG I can't believe I ate so much" feeling I had this morning when I woke up.
Pancakes and sausage and bacon at the fire hall at 8, barbecued chicken, corn, potato salad, roll, pickles, watermelon at 1, samples of fudge, and pizza, and chocolate. Cherry cheesecake and Tollhouse pie... Good thing I walked everywhere yesterday (about 5 miles the best I can figure) but I'm still not setting foot on that scale until my shorts don't feel quite so snug. One of the things I got for me on Friday was new earbuds for my iPod. I have no idea where the old ones went, and an iPod sans earpieces is just a paperweight, and not even a good one at that.School starts this week.
