We made it! School's over until September 1st! (and maybe later, since they're doing construction over the summer and may have to delay opening until after Labour Day.) Daniel moves to 1st grade, Simon moves on to high school, and Tori (gasp!) is a junior. But we don't need to think about that now.

Since the rule here is if you don't have a job, you have to make dinner one night a week, and since Tori doesn't start her job until next week, woohoo! I've got two (and a half) nights off cooking duty! Honestly I don't mind cooking, but I don't want to send my kids into the world knowing how to make nothing more difficult than cereal. Daniel even wants to get in on the action, so he'll spread and chop and sprinkle pizza toppings Friday, and we'll work up to meals he can make by himself by the end of the summer.

I started working on Tori's Bento Box quilt, and realized I am seriously short of dark grey/black prints. The Vermont Quilt Festival is next weekend, perhaps I can remedy the situation then. I've asked my friend Susan to come with me - we'll have to firm up plans today or tomorrow. She doesn't quilt, but appreciates the skill and effort involved - she's bought more quilts from me than anyone else, and doesn't think I charge her enough. :o) I think it's all been an elaborate set-up, though. (grin) She's asked me to make a quilt for her son out of his concert/high school/event t-shirts. I'm quaking at the thought. It'll come after Tori's quilt, though. And that will come after I whip together a July wallhanging for the mudroom. Poor Tori, pushed back again.

I had resolved at the beginning of the year to finish one quilt a month, and so far this year I've done it. But June's already two weeks old, and there's no quilt close enough to finished to get it done by the end of the month. Except. Except I found one. I found a little top made from a Red White and Blue swap challenge a few years ago. Participants traded red, white and blue 10" squares (I think) and the challenge was to actually make them into something instead of putting them away and forgetting about them. What I made was this little top. Maybe borders, maybe not. Maybe I'll just layer it, quilt on some stars or something and be done. Check back next week. Oh, and I think I have it sideways - it would look better with the red going up and down, wouldn't it?

Oh, I LOVE the piecing of that quilt. Very cool.

Great plan to get the kids cooking. Sure, I hate cooking now, but at least I learned how to do it. Still have cereal for supper on occasion, though. :)

I love the no job=cook a meal plan.

I think the quilt will look good either way, so quilt it in a way you can change it on a whim. You use clips for hanging in the display area anyway, don't you???
