Practically Done

The string top is now officially a finished quilt. Quilted, bound run through the wash, and named, in fact. Practically Done, in both senses of both words.

Practically Done, as in almost finished, since I believe the top was sewn 60 or more years ago, but never finished. Practically Done since it sat untouched in my possession for 5 or 6 of those years. Practically Done because that's how it was done - practically. With strips of leftovers and an old sheet, layered with a batt pieced together from scraps, backed with flannel I bought who-knows-when for who-knows-what, and bound with a piece of leftover floral from my large bits collection. Is it beautiful? I think so, for lots of reasons!

It really is squarer than this photo suggests.

I think string quilts are like a disease, only better.

I LOVE this combination of everything but the kitchen sink. The age adds to the patina!
