Oh, it's lovely out just now - 72ยบ, clear sky, slight breeze. And it's Sunday so nobody really has to go anywhere (which translates to "I don't have to take anyone anywhere.) Ahhh, lovely. I'll spend some time in the garden later, last night's rain should make weeding a breeze!
Friday I finished this. Joy! I've decided the name of this quilt is Persist, because it's what I needed to do to get it done when I questioned my choice of block and colour just about every time I sat down to work on it. I'm not sure what, if anything, I have for a backing, but that's not important right now. I need to get started on the next quilt, for nephew Nic. Yesterday the lightbulb switched on and I figured out (duh) that a Transformed 4 patch that begins life as 4 squares that are sewn, cut, and sewn again, and so has 3 horizontal seams and 3 vertical seams loses 2" in seam allowances. So to end up with a 12" finished block I need to begin with four 7" squares. 7"+7"-2"=12" Works every time, no matter how wide or narrow I make that second cut. Clear as mud? Sorry, but it was a flash of brilliant lightning when I figured it out (after weeks of trying to get my head around what sized square I need to start with.) Sometimes I just need to make things harder for myself than they really are. So a stack of these is this week's sewing plan.Today's activities? Right now I'm going outside to pick raspberries and green beans and tomatoes and lettuce (if it's not all bolted.) There will be no corn this year - I planted, then replanted twice. The first planting came up and was gnawed off by the cut worms. Second verse, same as the first. Third try? Never even sprouted. I'll to spend the next few weeks digging compost into that bed, then plant some cool weather crops - more carrots, some turnips perhaps, maybe spinach and lettuce if I can find seeds that will germinate in the warm soil.

Our corn isn't doing well either, not because of worms though. Our dog passed away a few weeks ago, and now the raccoons have easy going for the corn. They knocked over at least half of it and ate the corn. Darn!!!
