Martha Stewart will be spending Thanksgiving and Christmas in prison. Sure, it's not a concrete cell with iron bars at the tiny window, but it's not home, and I don't think she should be there.
Martha is in jail not for insider trading, not for embezzlement or any one of the hundreds of things that CEOs have got away with for years. She's in jail because she DARED to be a successful woman in a financial world dominated by men. She had the nerve to take charge of her life, and she had the audacity to make it look effortless. Is she a bitch? I don't know, I've never met her, but I'd love to. I can't think of a single woman I know who does not have the capacity to be a colossal bitch, if the situation requires it.
Martha Stewart shows us what we can be, what we could be with some effort and she's being crucified for it. That sucks. Maybe I'll gild some pinecones and arrange them in a tasteful handwoven basket with some mini-lights and greenery as a tribute to the Goddess of Homekeeping. It's a good thing.
