Cactus pears: um, no thanks. Done that, don't think I'll be doing that again. The outside of them is, well, cactus-y. Before we'd even made it to the checkout, Tori got several of the very fine thorns in her fingers, and so the 89¢ pear required a $2.99 tweezer purchase. No bargain there. The flesh is BEAUTIFUL - bright pink with dark little edible seeds. The texture is kind of like kiwi. The taste? A little like a cross between a cantaloupe and a cucumber. Odd.
Asian pears: Actually, I'm sure we have had these before, and the "nothing spectacular" doesn't warrant the high price. They smell and feel like pears, they look and taste like a bland grainy apple.
Greek Sheep and Goat Cheese: (That's how it was labeled, I'm not sure what kind of sheep and goat cheese it was.) Very sharp, no aftertaste. It's a crisp tasting cheese that for some bizarre reason made my teeth hurt. It is not smooth, kind of mealy. Tori and Daniel liked it, I didn't. But I don't care for feta or chèvre either, so I'm not too surprised.
Next? I was tempted to pick up a taro root or manioc but truly have NO idea how to cook them. They looked a little scary, too. ;o) Can't say that I'm so bored anymore, though. I'm insisting that my kids try these as well. I don't want to send them out in the world like Scott's mom did, thinking that creamed corn, carrot sticks and canned peas are all the vegetable world has to offer.

you are one big bore
Well, thanks for your kind comments. I'm sure you're just too precious for words.
HAHAHAHA...wouldn't it be amazing, and in fact TRUELY BORING if we made everyone happy all the time? Heck, our kids would never recognize us then.
Oh! You're SO boring your blog is on the top of my list, you are the first one I read every time I make the rounds.
Geez Louise!
Kudos to you for trying new things!
When I married the last hubby ... and he is an exhubby now ... he thought that the only veggies in the entire world were lettuce, toms, and onion ... on a double cheese burger, thank you very much!
Rude awakening for him when he found that I was happy with big bowls of salads and plates of steamed veggies. (And I expected him to learn to like em too...)
If only my weight could go away like my stash has been! Usually, winters are kind to me and I do okay, but not this season ... pout.
