Saving Daylight

Are you late? I changed all the clocks right after the kids went to bed except the one in my bedroom. SO of course, I woke up at 5, 6 EDT, which is the time I had been waking up. My circadian clock is all screwy. It doesn't help that the birds are also up that early, and it's light out. Once awake, I tend to stay awake so rather than fight it, I got up, got my shoes and my Walkman and went for a walk. Down Main Street to the creek, then down Water Street, across School, then up to Main again and home. I realized I should have got a paper while I was out, so I grabbed $2, and a check to deposit at the ATM, and headed back out. 2.26 miles altogether - very nice! Nice way to get my engine running this morning after the week (month!) of not paying attention I've been doing.

Here's a cool tool for calculating distance on your neighbourhood ambles. Enter your state and city, then zoom in to a comfortable closeness. Click on the Start Recording button, then double-click your way along the route you take, making sure you get yourself home again. Gmap calculates your distance, and, if you select the Calorie Counter option and enter your weight, you can see the good that your walk is doing. Fun!

Thank you for that tool!! I've been guessing at the distance of some of our walks, and this has confirmed my guesses!!

The elevation tool is nice too, though I didn't notice it affected calorie calculations (a lot of my walking is up and down hills).
