On the Eighth Day

On the eighth day of Christmas, I gave to myself

Eight affirmations
Seven empty dishes
Six hours of snow
Five o'clock!
Four good ideas
Three feet of knitting
Two bags of trash
and a headlamp so I can see!

The Huffington Post and SMITH magazine just held a fun little 6 word New Years Resolution contest. State your resolve in 6 little words, and maybe win a tee shirt. I didn't enter that one, but thougth I could come up with something similar for myself. Everyone (well, not everyone) does resolution, I've got some myself a few days back. These 8 words are my New Years Affirmations.

I'm a generally positive person, I prefer to look at the silver lining, rather than the cloud. One of my "design principals" if you can call it that, is "if you can't fix it, feature it." It worked when I was a property manager with a damp lawn spot that no amount of draining seemed to fix - we planted cedars, installed some bird feeders and called it a natural area - tenants loved it, the cedars flourished, and the birds ate the mosquitoes. Make that silk purse out of that sow's ear! Lemons to lemonade! It's all good. But sometimes finding the feature in the fault is hard, hence the affirmations above. All positive words, all words I plan to make a part of my experience of 2007.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I do the sow's ear into a silk purse routine all the time too--really stretches your creative thinking!

I BELIEVE I have packed the sows ear, but I DO know where the silk from India is, so I will ENCOURAGE myself to CREATE with this this year. I really ENJOY knowing how much FUN my neice had picking up the silk for me and will TRY to INCLUDE that feeling in my CREATION.

Thank YOU Dorothy for INSPIRING me to write with GOOD words.
