Warning! Quilt Content

I have, as I mentioned, begun Bevin's quilt. I had to unsew a bit on six blocks - I'd added a 4th round, and they were just too big and ugly. I like small blocks, though sadly this means I now have to make 120 of them instead of 72, but I can use more of the scrappy bits - the longest piece I need in these blocks is 7 1/2". Let's see, there's 14 blocks now. If I make 6 today, then 4 every day, the block piecing will take ...fingers, toes, fingers... 26 days counting today. Factor in mental health days and vacation (no, they are NOT the same thing) I can have a top assembled by Labour Day. That works. There will be more tans and browns, less reds, yellows and oranges when we get to the end, I think. But who knows? My quilts tend to demand they become what THEY want, I'm just the instrument, they're the music.

Bevin is the son that came with my second brother's wife. I've never met him, nor his two sisters, but mom tells me he's a nice boy, not afraid of a little hard work, as she put it. Her input really doesn't help me when I try to chose quilt patterns for these teenagers, so I go with my gut and hope for the best. I think most 16 year old boys are drawn to bold graphics (but what do I know?) so I think this will be okay. And of course all my quilt gifts come with the "if you don't like it send it back" guarantee. Of course you'll get nothing in return, but hey, I'm happy to take it back off your hands if it's causing you such distress. So far, no one's taken me up on it.

I think you're brilliant. This is a very masculine design, with its rich browns and strong geometric motif. I don't know the young man in question, of course, but I feel sure that most men would find it appealing. It's certainly not something he'll outgrow, nor does it send the message that he's a "child".

I love your return policy--I might have to adopt it someday for my own. LOL

I see a couple fabrics already in this that I would do dastardly deeds for! Well, almost!

No need for dastardly deeds - go back a few days to my initial post about this quilt. There's a link to Teresa's blog. Many (most) of the batiks in this are from her. Great price, too.

Once again, a beautiful quilt Dorothy. You seem to want to shy away from the masculine style, but heck girl, it's right up your alley. This is very striking.

I love the colors you've chosen. And you're right, the quilt will tell you what it wants from here.
