Can you stand more dirt news?

No? Well, click through to your next blog, then. This week has again been needlework free.

This week I built, filled and planted 180 square feet (1080 cubic feet if you count the 6" deep part) of vegetable garden. Beans, corn, pumpkins, cucumbers, watermelon, jalapenos, sweet peppers, and 8 different kinds of tomatoes. I've got lettuce, carrots and spinach in the old bed behind the house. When they weren't in school and unable to come up with a REALLY good reason to disappear, the kids did help, while Scott either worked, cut the grass, or cleared brush. He's not the gardening type.

Wednesday was the Underclass Awards night at the High School. We arrived a little early, took our seats, and sat back to enjoy. They announced Junior Year scholarships first, and Julie, a very sweet young lady who helped with Daffodil Days this year returned to the stage again and again - $135,000 worth of full tuition offers from 3 different schools. When she graduates next year, she can get a degree from a good school without the worry of paying for it. Boys' State delegates followed, National Honor Society inductees... then the underclassmen awards.

You don't get invited unless you've won something, so we knew there was something coming. But what? We sat through everything before the final awards were presented at the end of the evening. Tori has excelled at all her classes this year - her favourite last semester was World Literature. But the award she got? For Excellence is Achievement. In WELDING! She loves it, and she's good! There's only one other girl in the class, there because her boyfriend was going to take it, I think, and the rest are boys. And my sweet girl out-welded the bunch. Her award?

Vice Grips. :o) She wants to paint them pink.

I think I'm going to switch this up for the summer, instead of doing a review on Sundays I'll do a punch list. Menu plan, to-do list, deadlines. And so, in that spirit, this week:

Dinner Menu
Sunday - BBQ Pork Roast, peas, parmesan egg noodles
Monday - Hot Dogs, Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad
Tuesday - Spaghetti & garlic bread
Wednesday - Quiche and salad
Thursday - Mac & Cheese (crock pot)

Pull fabrics for ALQS quilt

My son, The Car Guy, got a kick out of Tori's prize. Very cool! I think I'll follow your menu-thanks for doing the thinking for me.

Wow -- congrats to Tori! My dad keeps trying to weld things, but everything he "welds" falls apart... maybe I should give him Tori's number for the next time he's got a project :)

Your Tori story reminds me of the movie Flashdance. She was a welder, remember?
