Weekend Whatever

Last week

Needlework
fix bag strap on folding chair
fix lining in Tori's wool coat
(I'm just being realistic) and realistically, I got none of it done.

Outside
Weed the garage bed, deadhead the front bed
clear to the pine stump
Work on front bed
I did!! I did!!!
pick up some plants (arborvitae and boxwood?) for the front bed

This week's clearing was mostly uneventful, except for that ant issue, and that's resolved itself too. I came across another ant log and since it was too rotted to drag out, I burned it. The ash will be good for the soil. I'm finding a surprisingly small amount of trash. The occasional candy wrapper, the corner of an old license plate, and a car radio antenna. A very few bits of building material, too, some plywood and the odd blob of expanding foam insulation.

I didn't get the front bed deadheaded or weeded (it needs it, bad!) but it's blooming on without me. Have you ever found yourself drawn into the sweet prettiness of a Shasta Daisy, come on, closer, cloooooooser, oh, so pretty! Now smell. ACK! Just imagine your neighbour didn't picking up after the dogs when she walked them through your flower bed. We don't pick them, just admire them from across the yard. A few years ago a friend in TN sent me some beebalm seeds from her garden. They're lovely! I have a purple one, and every year the Japanese beetles eat every petal of every flower. Stupid bugs. They leave the red mostly alone though. What's up with that?

The shade bed under the pine trees is coming along nicely too. It was the first garden I put in here - I planted the daffodils in the fall of 2000 and they look gorgeous every April. I've tried annuals in there, for the summer, and nothing wanted to grow. So a few years ago I decided it would be hostas and astilbes and nothing else. I moved the bleeding hearts, cranesbills, and columbine and they're all happier in their new spots. Seems the astilbes like it here just fine.

I've got "fix the garage door opener" on the list for this week, though I started it yesterday. Ugh.

Dorothy, you are making me look bad. Your to-do lists make me want to lie down and take a nap.
