Friday Flashback

Vicky posted a picture on Tuesday of her brother and sister in law and erased the head of the guy standing next to them. *bing!* Flashback!

I have three brothers, and two of them have former spouses. My mother (dontcha just love stories about my wonderfully weird mother?) is not one to bear a grudge, but she's pretty black and white about what consitutes her idea of family. Oh, and she's practical to a fault. When my brothers' marriages dissolved, mom was a little torn about what to do with family pictures that had these women, these former daughters-in-law in them. They were no longer a part of the family, but darn it, there were these perfectly good pictures (snapshots mostly) with them smiling at the camera. Her solution? Black sticky dots. The pictures remained just where they were, as they were, with poor Deb and Natalie's visage obscured by 3/4" of impenetrable darkness.
(not my family)

OMG, too funny!

Maybe it's more of a sign of how it left your mother's heart...that big black hole thingy. My ex-inlaws are the closest thing I have had to real parents in years.

How funny - were there any kids? (Just wondering if the black sticky dots would have obscured "Tom's mom?") Life these days is never neat...

LOL! What's great about that is that it almost attracts more attention to the exes than before.

Like I said, mom doesn't bear grudges, but neither Deb nor Natalie are a part of our family anymore, ergo, they don't belong in family pictures. No hard feelings, just the facts, ma'am. ;o) There are children, from both relationships, and they are treated as all 19 of them are - loved at arms length. It's just her way.

I always wondered what people did about family pictures and divorce. Now I know. My mother-in-law probably has a couple of cases of black dots ready for my face...
