We lived in North Carolina for a few years in the late 80s. I was happy enough there, but never really comfortable. There were things that made me tilt my hgead sideways and go hmmm...

One of those things was a
state law passed in 1989 that took effect Oct 1, 1990 making it illegal to drive with your headlights off if you had your wipers going. Strange law, huh? I mean seriously, who DOESN'T turn their lights on when it's raining, or snowing. Did that little bit of common sense really need to be legislated? Well, apparently yes, since there was quite an outcry at the time. I never did get that, although when daytime running lights (slightly dimmed headlights) were mandated for every new vehicle in Canada in the early 90s, there was the same noise.
So this week it's been snowing. A lot. Everybody's got their wipers going. Does everyone have their headlights on, here in the land of low light and overcast skies. Uh, that'd be a big no. Sigh... people are dumb, huh?

--people are dumb-- Yep...we just had that law go into effect last year...and still I see idiots with their lights out when it's raining or foggy...I guess they think if THEY can see, they don't need lights..but the point is for ME to be able to see THEM!!
We'll probably end up with another 'nanny regulation' where Detroit will have to make the lights go on if the wiper switch is activated...
