Ironically, at that SPLC site, there's a hate group you can join to fight all those mapped-out hate groups. I found that hilarious, but I have a dark sense of humor. :)

A hate group that hates hate groups... hmmm funded by the federal government perhaps? Thats just too funny...

Although I know that there are really ignorant people that are hateful and violent on both sides of the political spectrum, somehow I have a feeling that the SPLC's idea of hate groups might cover a wide range of ideas.

And I guess "hate group" is a matter of perspective. I found a link for an alternative perspective to the SPLC.
I've been thinking a lot lately about how the word 'racist' is being thrown around and the actual meaning being diluted. It used to actually mean something, now it is pulled out just to throw at someone who might have a differing opinion. The same can be said for the SPLC's idea of hate groups.

It seems that these days, you are deemed a hate group by people like this just because you don't agree with everything they believe in. This is just one of the groups that is in the business of dividing Americans into antagonistic little groups, pitting them against each other. I look at people like this, and Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton as people who 'stir the pot' if they didn't have a civil rights issue to jump on, they would be absolutely useless in our world.. and would have to make their money another way. From what I see on this site, I think this one is just another kind of a "Hate" group. The definition from their website of a hate group is
"Hate group activities can include criminal acts, marches, rallies, speeches, meetings, leafleting or publishing" That's really vague. Would that include 'Code Pink, Animal Liberation Front, Earth Liberation Front? I would bet you anything, they would consider the Americans that went to DC last weekend a hate group, because anyone that disagrees with the way the current administration is doing things have been deemed "racists" by the mainstream media.. let's see, our elected officials, if they haven't ignored it all together, have called them "tea baggers", astroturf, stupid, among other condescending names. Since when did freedom of speech mean freedom of speech if you agree only if you agree with me, otherwise shut your yap?
I would be really interested in seeing a list of names attached to that map.
Sorry Dorothy, you just hit me in a point in time that I have been thinking a lot about these groups that divide us as a country.

If you're referring to the names of the organizations referenced, as well as SPLC's categorization of them, they can be found by clicking on individual states within the map.

Well, Teri, since I know your state, here's a list of your neighbours.
-Supreme White Alliance
-United Realms of America Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
-Diehard Records
-Sons of Adolf Hitler
-National Alliance
-European-American Unity and Rights Organization
-National Socialist Movement
-New Black Panther Party
-United Southern Brotherhood
-Brotherhood of Klans Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
-Nation of Islam
-Appalachian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
-Brotherhood of Klans Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
-ISD Records
-Ohio State Hooligans
-Brotherhood of Klans Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
-National Alliance
-Blood and Honour
-American National Socialist Workers Party

Did members of these groups go to DC? Probably. But I don't see a Glen Beck fan club in the list. I think you're seeing more here than is actually there. The Southern Poverty Law Center does good work protecting the rights of any victim of hate, hate based on nothing more, in most cases, than the very divisions you're talking about. Us vs. them.

And I don't believe that standing up against hate, individually or as a part of an organization like the Stand Strong group promoted on the SPLC page constitutes more hate. My opinion.
