Happy end-of-the-candy day, everyone. It seems like every holiday between Hallowe'en and Easter involves candy, but no, oh no! begins the long stretch. Of course there will be popsicles and creemees and s'mores, but no candy. Boohoo.

The weather here this weekend has been positively summery. I called State Farm to get the road insurance reinstated on Scott's car (he parks it for the winter) and Mary said that's all she'd been doing all week - insuring motorcycles and convertibles. All I want to do is get out in the garden! I have sewed exactly nothing this week, but I did get a small start on cleaning the basement and planning my garden.

I've been hording egg cartons to start seeds, and gallon milk containers to turn into cloches for cold nights when I put out little plants. I've been thinking of changing up my planting methods this year. I'm going to build some frames to grow cucumbers, pumpkins, melons and squash on. They'll be angled slightly, and I'll plant grow lettuce and spinach and carrots and onions in their shadow. I think. I really need to get out there and see what's happening, though. I walked over to the store earlier and noticed that other people's lilacs are getting leaves. I wonder if any of mine survived. (I'm the great pessimist where transplanting is concerned. - eta - just checked, they're alive!) In that same vein, no sign of life (yet?) from the new daylily bed. But the daffodils are up! And the tulips and irises and hyacinths. And the crocuses and chiondoxa are blooming!!

Now, I'm going to make a carrot cake. can't let that cleaned oven stay that way, now can I?
