TBT 14543

I noticed today I have a few DRAFT posts that were never published.  Let's revisit.  This one is from November 2004.  Oops.  And look at that, 13 years later, and not a thing has changed.  Imagine that.  I do not know what the title 14543 means. TBT is Throwback Tuesday; bucking convention.  Why not?

"I think it is fair to say that I believe we've got a great chance to establish a Palestinian state," George Jr. said. "And I intend to use the next four years to spend the capital of the United States on such a state."

How 'bout "Mind your own business?" The US has no business whatsoever interfering in the middle east. Maybe a little less meddling by the western world might have prevented so much of the terror and death that is a daily part of life on the east coast of the Mediterranean. A little history as I understand it (and trust me, there's plenty about this I might have wrong.) Palestinians and Jews have inhabited the area we call the Middle East for thousands of years. Before there was a USA, before there was England, and France and Germany and Russia and Switzerland there was habitation around the east end of the Mediterranean Sea. Christians, Jews and Muslims all believe life began here. Evolutionists suspect life began here. From the earliest recorded history, there has been war here. Jews believe their God gave this land to them, Israel. Muslims believe THEIR God gave it to them, Palestine. Ahem, guys? Same God. The old testament God of Abraham is common to both religions. Abraham had a son, Ismael, with his mistress Hagar - Palestinians trace their history to Ismael. Abraham had a second son, Isaac. Jews trace their history to Isaac. But hey look, same grand-dad.

Seems to me this has become a great big bloody game of "Who's Dad's Favourite?" In gallop the Christians on their white steeds and declare that since the Jews have been so badly treated through history, we'll set them up in their own homeland. Really? And where does that leave the Palestinians, the other brother in this stupid game? Have THEY not been treated badly? Where does the western world get the right to say that God loves the children of Israel better than the children of Mohammed?

On May 14, 1948 the US jumped up to officially recognized the existence of the State of Israel within hours of Ben-Gurrion's declaring its existence. The Jews reclaimed the land they believe God gave them, throwing out God's other children, the Palestinians (who incidently ALSO believe God gave it to them). It was a tug of war before that, it's been a tug of war since then, and the meddling on the part of the western world has not changed that one bit.

George, you can use this "capital" you claim to have earned in the last election to create a Palestinian state. More power to ya, pal, it's a lofty goal. Pipe dream, actually. The creation of a Palestinian state isn't going to change the state of the Middle East. The government of Israel might agree to it, the leaders of the Palestinians might agree to it, but the people will not be happy. Israel will not respect Palestine's claims to ANY territory, just as Palestinians refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist. The kids are gonna keep fighting, and there is no amount of candy you can buy that will stop them.
