In the snow I already see the message of spring’s arrival;
Winter plum buds decorate smooth jade branches.
Their fragrant faces are half-open, delicate and fluttering,
in the middle of the courtyard,
the plum, just like a beautiful woman coming out of the bath.
Perhaps Mother Nature has a special idea
in purposely instructing the bright moon to be translucent.
Let’s enjoy the green wine in the gold cup;
surrender to the intoxication,
this flower is beyond compare.

Pretty, huh? This is the inspiration for the first quilt I get to work on, yikes!! Denise has begun with a plum blossom applique, though she mentioned having looked for peonies. I have a peony block pattern, I think. I've found my ONE paper piecing book, and it does have a fair number of Asian looking images. Cranes, lotus, a kimono. I'll figure it out when I see it, I think. I hope.
Thinking about this more, maybe I'll do a more traditional block, something to balance the more artistic applique I see happening as this quilt progresses. Maybe pineapples...
This is my first row - Crazy for Pink and Green. No stress, no thought - it's a use up your bits piece. I've only embellished 4 of the blocks, and those only a little, so the others won't feel too stretched out of comfort zones. Anyone who wants to is more than welcome to go hog wild on their blocks, those who don't can send them naked and I'll dress 'em when they get home.
