That was a very exercise-y week. Also a very eat-y one. Tuesday the senior class (and I) walked 6 1/2 miles - the first leg of their 3 day walk-a-thon. Wednesday I woke up with a migraine and decided that puking at the side of the road was probably not the kind of role modeling 17 and 18 year olds need, so I stayed home and took a personal day. ;o) I napped, I emptied and rolled the coin in my piggy bank ($181.50!), I had lunch with Kathy, I parked on the couch with my knitting and Slumdog Millionaire. Thursday I felt much better, so I tied on my shoes and walked the last 4 miles with the kids. In the rain. (Having to pee for the final mile and a half!)

The walk-a-thon was the annual seniors' community service project. This year they raised money for the Veterans Rehab program at Porter Hospital ($1500), for Leukemia Research ($1200) and to support a local family (another one!) whose 9 year old daughter was just diagnosed with abdominal cancer ($1000.) Any money that came in after the checks were cut will go to the family of a student who was thrown from a horse last weekend and who remains in a coma with probable severe brain damage. All good causes, but enough! This is a small community and three of our children are seriously fighting for their lives. It's heartbreaking.
